Tim Marrinan studied applied mathematics and geology at Whitman College; earning a Bachelor's degree in 2008. He subsequently spent two years outside of academia before joining the Pattern Analysis Lab in the department of mathematics at Colorado State University in 2010. During his time at CSU, Tim served as a graduate research and teaching assistant, mentor to incoming GTA's, and President of the CSU student chapter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematicians (SIAM). Focusing his research on geometric data analysis with applications to computer vision and pattern recognition, Tim received an MS in 2013 under the supervision of Michael Kirby and Chris Peterson. During the summer of 2015, Tim joined the Pacific Northwest National Lab as a PhD intern in the National Security Directorate. In the fall of 2016 he completed his PhD from Colorado State University with Michael Kirby and Chris Peterson, and joined the Signal and System Theory Group at the University of Paderborn as a postdoctoral research associate at the start of 2017. Tim's other research interests include signal processing, topological data analysis, optimization, machine learning, semidefinite programming, dimensionality reduction, domain adaptation, and statistics on Riemannian manifolds.
